Possibly. Several reputable studies have shown that Clear Aligner Cases can achieve faster results. While teeth only move at a rate of approximately 1mm per month, all of the tooth movement in aligner cases can be programmed to happen simultaneously, whereas in braces cases, these movements need to be done sequentially. This leads to faster treatment times in mild cases. However, clear aligners have been shown to struggle with certain large movements as the plastic is not as strong as brackets and wires. Cases in which these large movements are necessary will likely finish faster in braces.

Vibrating appliances such as Acceledent® claim to speed up braces and aligner treatment by stimulating your biology and helping seat the aligners. There is no scientific evidence that these appliances make any difference. We don’t want to waste our patient’s time, effort, and finances on unproven devices.

Attachments are bumps that we add to the teeth to give the aligners a greater surface to push on in the optimal pushing direction depending on the alignment of the tooth. 95% of cases require them. Very simple aligner cases that don’t involve the round front teeth can be done without them. If your case is more complicated and involves movement of round teeth that do not have much for the plastic to grab on to, then attachments must be used to make the process more efficient and predictable.
